Age: 27
Current Characters: Alice Margatroid
Character: Saber
Age: Who even knows, has the appearance of a teenager however.
Canon: Fate/stay night
Canon Point: End of Fate route
Background: Saber on the T-M wiki.
Personality: The image Saber puts forth is that of a gallant knight. Which isn't wrong. For many, she is indeed the ideal knight, brave, polite, well-mannered, noble, honorable, chivalrous. She treats ideals such as honor and duty highly in her mind, above her own well-being in many cases. It even runs far enough to reach stupidity, the desire to fulfill her duty and objective would allow her to run into an obvious trap, while wounded, even if there was a single chance of victory. Her pride cannot allow her to pass up the chance to seize it. So while such traits of hers are her strength, they are also her weakness.
Such as her pride. She holds pride in upholding the code of knights and the honor that follows. Even if it places her at a distinct and obvious disadvantage, she will do so if it is the honorable thing to do. This isn't all bad though, as said honor, which she is happy to live by, as she is a respectable and reserved person. She would not wish to insult someone, maybe perhaps not including those that truly deserve such words, and to retain a cool-header personality among others. Which she can fail at doing at times. It should also bear mentioning that she is quite loyal, not to the degree some others are, but she will keep to her word if she says she will stay till her last breath, and in cases shown where that trust has been broken on her end, she is shown to just become overwhelmed with grief. Insults to her pride, or honor in general tend to piss her off and leads her to become a bit of a white knight.
Her holding back on her own personality may be from during her time spent as king. She believed that a king was to serve the country they ruled and the people that lived there. The term lonely at the top could describe her, but she placed herself there willingly. She subdued anything and everything she was as a person, to be the best ruler she could be. In contrast, her times when she was summoned as Saber gives her a chance to live a bit, even if she is adamant in her goals and objectives, as she at smiles and gets to know people.
And if you know about Arthurian Myth... then you should know how it ends. Even in the end, she wanted nothing more than to give her people something better, because she wasn't good enough and was a failure. Perhaps it was selfish in a way, certainly foolish, but she was earnest in her desire. Some may compare her to a saint at times, though how accurate this is may be up for debate. Even after the whole ordeal involving Lancelot and Guinevere, Saber still thought of the man as a friend. Certainly, Saber holds a deep compassion for those she is close with, though she may not show it. After all, to show something like that... may be a sign of weakness.
As for what kind of person she is, beneath the honor of the knight and the coldness of the king... is a girl who can hardly claim to be worth much of anything. She never thought herself as a woman or barely even a human. She thinks that, if someone were to be interested in her, they had to be mistaken, as for what reason would they have? There is nothing special about her to warrant that. Her insecurities about herself are many, but to show them to others would be rude and inconsiderate. And so they are bottled up.
If it sounds like Saber is a joyless person, then she can feel happy and such. Even eating can be enjoyable for her, as she values well done food greatly. How much she values it however, may make her come off as a glutton however. She is someone who is more subtle in how she is, keeping herself subdued for the most part. As the layers of knight fade and the person Saber is comes out... who actually is a rather normal person. One who, admittedly has deep issues about how she views herself, but it is a sharp contrast from how she normally is.
The contempt she has for those that go against her ideals and honor is quite massive, actually. For an example of this, look no further than the Master she had during War 4, Kiritsugu Emiya. A man who desired to see the world saved by going about it in the most underhanded manner possible. Even ignoring the final moments involving him, Saber holds very little warmth to the man, as his very mannerisms in what he does go against everything Saber stands for. Sabers anger had been raised numerous times against the man, who only treated her as a tool, going so far as to only communicate with her via instructions. In comparison to this, his wife, Irisviel, got along amazingly well with Saber. She treated her both as a knight and as a person, and was kindly enough to be someone Saber could call a friend. Although they may not have agreed on Kiritsugu, Saber respected Irisviel enough not to potentially harm any ties they shared.
And then there is his adopted son, Shirou. This young man is basically her savior. All routes of the game basically show that the two get along extremely well, with the two following her own route basically making them best friends. Although she is baffled and sometimes infuriated by his thought process, he is someone who sees Saber as a person than a tool of war, and eventually this manages to make Saber fond of him, along with the fact he is a good, honest person. That fact alone makes her incredibly pleased, after having to deal with Kiritsugu. Although they may clash at times... she loves him, and he is the reason she saw that her wish, her entire reason for being in the grail war, was a foolish belief. The two are alike in many ways, but veer off in different ways as well. Whether or not you see them as an ideal couple, it's hard to say they don't relate well.
Abilities: There's a lot! Most are described in detail within the link above, but I shall at least try to briefly go over them.
-Prana burst. In short, it allows her to strengthen either herself and/or her sword using magical energies allowing for superhuman levels of power.
-Riding. A natural talent that lets her know how to ride something, even something she hasn't used before, such as a car. Although she does not know the exact function of what something does, she knows what it will do. It means she can drive stick.
-Magic Resistance. In addition to her class, the blood of dragons she has makes nearly impervious to magical sources. Even command spells, the tools used to forcefully command a Servant to perform an action, possibly against their will, has proven not entirely effective against Saber, needing at least two uses before it comes into effect.
-Instinct. It's... instinct, taken to an extreme level. She can essentially foretell how a fight shall play out, at this level. However, it does have limits and actually being able to act on it is another thing all together.
-Charisma. She's pretty charismatic, as she was a king.
-Water walking. Due to blessings of the Lady of the Lake, Saber is able to freely walk on water as if it were land. She however has no idea how to swim.
In addition, here are her Noble Phantasms.
-Excalibur: The Sword of Promised Victory. The most well known holy sword to exist, also the strongest holy sword. As a basic weapon, Excalibur is a rather large sword, not something you would expect Saber to be able to wield, given her size. As a normal weapon, it acts as a normal sword well enough, though it is also a magical construct. Where it truly shines is with it's activation. It glows a golden light, and once swung, releases a massive wave of energy that wrecks utter havoc. The level of destruction this can cause leaves her hesitant to actually use it, as it could very well destroy a good portion of a city. It is classified as an Anti-Fortress/Castle weapon, which means that it can be used effectively for that purpose.
-Invisible Air: Bounded Field of the Wind King. A simple spell that envelops her sword with wind, but can also be used on other objects. It's main purpose is to hide Excalibur, and thus who she is. Only disrupting the wind or if Saber herself releases it, can the sword underneath be seen, but people who can see past illusions can at least tell information about what it is. Using wind to propel herself at an increased speed, or using the wind as a weapon apart from the sword are also things she can do.
-Avalon: The Everdistant Utopia. The sheath of Excalibur. While it was originally lost to her during her life, Saber managed to retrieve it from Shirou, who had it implanted inside of him. Effectively renders her immortal. Wounds are healed an absurd rate, stopped her from aging, only a strike that can kill in a single stroke can render it non-functional. Which is a lot of things, honestly. Activation puts her in a barrier of sorts. The actual explanation is confusing but in short she is invincible when it is used. Even a weapon that could render the world asunder could not reach her.
Other: There have been about three different ways of translating her name, Arturia, Altoria and Altria. I'll just be sticking with Arturia. Well, that and Arthur.
